Mindfulness and Expressive Arts: Applications for Counselling, Education, and Community

Location: University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies
Saturday, September 15, 2018 - Sunday, September 16, 2018 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Learn how to integrate contemplative expressive arts practices within counselling, educational and community contexts. In this course, you will discover the history, theory and traditions that inform the application of contemplative expressive arts. The course combines lecture, discussion and experiential exercises in a collaborative learning environment. We will work with clay, music and poetry to develop knowledge and skills. You will emerge with a greater understanding of the creative modalities that you are attuned with and ways to implement them within professional settings.

Instructors: Ana Bodnar & Suzanne Thomson

Ana Bodnar is a Clinical Psychologist, meditation teacher, and Soul Collage facilitator, with over 25 years experience in supporting individuals and groups towards healing. She has a clinical psychotherapy practice, teaches meditation, offers professional development workshops and teaches courses in mindfulness and psychotherapy at the University of Toronto.

Suzanne Thomson is a registered psychotherapist with over 25 years experience in the the field of art therapy, integrating mindfulness and sensorimotor psychotherapy to facilitate healing and community engagement. She provides psychotherapy, clinical consultation, teaches art therapy, and co-creates community-based arts projects to address social justice issues.
